new work (2024), ensemble klang, de link – world premiere

On 15 October 2024, Ensemble Klang presents the world premiere of a new work by Rozalie Hirs in De Link, Tilburg. The new work by Rozalie Hirs was commissioned by the ensemble.

Ensemble Klang consists of Saskia Lankhoorn (piano), Pete Harden (guitars, artistic director), Anton van Houten (trombone, director), Erik-Jan de With (saxophones), Michiel van Dijk (saxophones), Joey Marijs (percussion).

From January 2023 to December 2024, Rozalie Hirs is Associate Maker at the leading Ensemble Klang in The Hague. Last year, Ensemble Klang performed her cycle dreams of airs (2017-18) at Muze van Zuid & Dag in de Branding. The photo above shows the dress rehearsal at Korzo Theatre, The Hague, on 21 October 2023. The video projection was made especially for the cycle by visual artists Boris Tellegen and Geert Jan Mulder.

venus [morning star] (2010) – swiss premiere

On Monday 9 December 2019 at 20:15 CET Ronan Gil de Morais plays 40 Jahre Sixxen, a concert featuring the sixxen, a set of six metal mallet instruments, originally conceived by Iannis Xenakis for the movement Métaux of his composition Pléïades (1979). The concert, consisting of the performance of a selection of compositions for this special set of instruments, includes Venus [morning star] (2010) by Rozalie Hirs, and Métaux by Xenakis.

On 2 November 2019 at 16:00 CET the architect Machiel Spaan and composer Rozalie Hirs present their new architectural sound sculpture Ways of Space (2019), which they have developed in close collaboration during their artist-in-residence at Maison Van Doesburg, Meudon, France. Ways of Space (2019) is inspired by the concept of the ‘open floorplan’ developed by Theo Van Doesburg (1883-1931) for his own residence. Spaan created the spatial arrangement of loudspeakers and Hirs composed new electronic sounds for the musical composition. It is the third collaborative architecture/sound art project by Spaan and Hirs, after Curvices (2013-present), and the Listening House (2017-present). The residency is supported by Mondriaanfonds, Maison Theo Van Doesburg, and Stimuleringsfonds voor de Creatieve Industrie.
