From 2 November until 7 December 2019 the brandnew architectural sound sculpture Ways of space (2019) by Rozalie Hirs and Machiel is exhibited in the Maison Van Doesburg, Meudon (near Paris), France. The exhibition is officially opened during Open Saturday IV, curated by Spaan and Hirs during their artist-in-residence at Van Doesburg House.
Ways of Space (2019) is inspired by the concept of the ‘open floorplan’ developed by Theo Van Doesburg (1883-1931) for his own residence. Spaan created the spatial arrangement of loudspeakers and Hirs composed new electronic sounds for the musical composition. Next year Ways of Space will be exhibited at several museums in The Netherlands, such as the Bauhaus Exhibition at Museum Drachten, and Van Eesteren Museum, Amsterdam. It is the third collaborative architecture/sound art project by Spaan and Hirs, after Curvices (2013-present), and the Listening House (2017-present). With support of M3H architecten, Mondriaanfonds, Maison Van Doesburg, and Stimuleringsfonds voor de Creatieve Industrie.
