October 20, 2024. Mark van der Voort published a glowing review titled “Kolderpathos and Sound Color Magic” about the premiere concert of charms, symmetries by Rozalie Hirs, performed by Ensemble Klang. In the review, he writes, among other things:
“Hirs presented one of her most accessible works. In charms, symmetries, she plays with radiant harmonies and almost sultry, jazzy chords in the brass and vibraphone. The piece is also a clear tribute to her teacher and composer Louis Andriessen. The texture of soft, repetitive pulses and warm timbres is delightfully contrasted with more forceful bursts of sound. Hirs builds her work in fragments, where intoxicating, heartwarming harmonies dominate, spiced with exciting moments of silence.”
