dagtekening van liefdesvormen | Marthe Koning
For her latest project, Marthe Koning draws inspiration from dagtekening van liefdesvormen, a poetry collection by Rozalie Hirs. Much like her earlier work based on texts by Fernando Pessoa, Marthe uses poetry as a springboard—this time transforming it into a unique fusion of dance and voice. The focus is on the creative process itself: through live experimentation, she explores how these poems can take on new form through the body and voice.
This is not about setting the poems to music. Instead, the performance seeks to embody the poetry, allowing it to evolve into something entirely new.
Marthe Koning is a theatre maker and performer based in Brussels. She graduated three years ago from the Performance program in Maastricht. Her work often begins with poetry, but rarely preserves the literal text. Instead, she dissects and translates the words into a visceral, physical experience. For Marthe, it’s not about reciting poems, but about discovering where language becomes alive—on stage, in the moment, through movement and sound. She describes her practice as “doing poetry” in performance.
