On 26 November 2014 at 20:00 CET Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Candida Thompson (principal player and artistic director) perform the try-out of lichtende drift for string orchestra (2014) by Rozalie Hirs, commissioned by Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Furthermore Rob van Steen interviews Rozalie about her compositional ideas, and the new work.
In her youth Rozalie developed an early affection for the works by Béla Bartók, starting with the works for piano solo, soon to be followed by the works for strings: his string quartets, duos for two violins, violin concertos, Divertimento for strings, and Music for Strings, Celesta and Percussion.
Hirs’s lichtende drift for string orchestra (2014) is written in reply to Bartók’s Divertimento. She regards it as an honor to be performed by Amsterdam Sinfonietta alongside her first musical hero. Further compositions in the program are Fugue on the name B.A.C.H. by Robert Schumann and Concerto Funebre by Karl Amadeus Hartmann. The soloist of the evening is violinist Isabelle Faust.
