program notes

article 0 [transarctic buddha] for percussion solo (2000) is a journey across the ancient, bold, cold head of a stone buddha – a journey around its crown; the globe of ice at the poles, covering seas and land and keeping it invisible until the temperature rises above zero degrees celsius.

The instrumentation includes metals (vibraphone, glockenspiel, plate bells, thai gongs or cow bells) and stones (a series of twenty-three custom-cut pitched pieces of white marble, Belgian blue stone, and granite).

article 0 [transarctic buddha] for percussion solo (2000) was conceived as a companion piece to The King of Denmark (1964) by Morton Feldman.
